Oakmont Accomplishments

  • Served on the boards of various Oakmont clubs including Sunday Symposium, Saturday Golf Club, Pickleball (current membership chair) and Boomers (past President)
  • Delivered a presentation to Oakmont Sunday Symposium on the topic of transpartisanship
  • Co-founded the Oakmont Spirituality collaborative

  • Purchased Oakmont's golf facilities, protecting Oakmont from developers intending to build homes on Oakmont golf course fairways
  • Completed conversion of two tennis courts at the East Rec Center to pickleball courts; oversaw pickleball court dedication and opening
  • Established the Oakmont dog park
  • Introduced vaccine inoculations at the Berger Center
  • Renovated the East Recreation Center
  • Introduced the concept of resolutions at board meetings
  • Introduced community comment after each resolution
  • Introduced neighborhood gatherings, where several board members would show up in any Oakmont neighborhoods that asked for us to talk about any topics of interest or concern
  • Introduced the Social Call program to address member loneliness
  • Introduced the Oakmont Neighbors Together program to provide dues assistance to those experiencing financial difficulties
  • Established a program to help Los Guillicos residents with clothing and other needed items
  • Engaged in efforts to keep a cannabis dispensary out of Oakmont
  • Established Oakmont as an official Firewise USA community
  • Established the Community Education and Transparency Committee to help ensure Oakmont residents could keep up with the latest issues
  • Established the Aid for Sub Associations Committee to recommend actions to help Oakmont's sub associations more easily find and train leaders and withstand financial hardship
  • Working with local law enforcement, arranged for the opening of Wild Oak gates in the event local authorities determine Oakmont residents can safely evacuate through Wild Oak during fires and other severe events, thereby helping avoid extra clogging of Highway 12 during emergencies
  • Established a five-phase project management system to be used for all major Oakmont projects executed by the board
  • Standardized the office on Microsoft Office platforms and tools
  • Published an article on HOA board best practices in Common Ground, a Community Associations Institute national HOA journal

Pre-Oakmont Accomplishments

  • Received Certificate of Achievement from the Jet Propulsion Labor in Pasadena for contributions to the Voyager spacecraft encounter with Jupiter
  • Received Visions of the Scribe Award of Distinction for Cisco Systems Internetworking Technology Handbook
  • As Director of Knowledge Products at Cisco, led a team of about 225 employees and oversaw a $25M budget
  • After retiring, taught classes for the Osher Lifelong Learning Program at both UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton
  • Founded and ran a chapter of ReclaimDemocracy.org
